Very pleased to add my support to this statement from the East Lothian Conservative Group supporting our fantastic local volunteers and frontline workers:
“Across East Lothian, thousands of staff and volunteers have risen to the challenge of managing our collective Covid-19 response.
In the NHS, our care homes, our schools, in East Lothian Council and in our shops and emergency services, they have gone far beyond the call of duty.
They have helped save lives, keeping key services running while caring for the most vulnerable members of our community.
And many of them have set aside the fears of their own families by putting their own lives at risk to do so.
From churches, Local Area Partnerships and Community Councils to our local charities, volunteers have cooked hot meals and run errands for those who are shielding.
They have chapped on the doors or windows of elderly neighbours and they have broken the silence by making telephone calls to isolated residents forced to stay at home for weeks on end.
At a time when many faced their own emotional or financial challenges as a result of Covid-19, they have done East Lothian proud.
In Volunteers’ Week, East Lothian’s Conservative Group of Councillors recognises their efforts for our communities.
They are the best of Scotland – and the best of Britain – and we thank them for showing selfless dedication in such difficult times.”
